- Colonoscopy
This is a procedure which involves evaluation of the colon
by inserting a long flexible scope - camera through the rectum
for the purpose of diagnosing different types of illnesses related
to the colon. This is the main tool currently used to identify
precancerous growths - polyps to prevent colon cancer. Colon
cancer is the second most common cancer in men and women.

This is a procedure which involves examination of the rectum
and the left side of of the colon with the help of a small flexible
camera.

This involves inserting a flexible scope - camera to examine
the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

This involves examining the small bowel with the help of a
camera.
- E.R.C.P.
This is a procedure that involves injection of dye into the
pancreatic duct and bile duct to diagnose various illnesses
related to these two organs. This procedure can be used to diagnose
cancers involving the bile duct and pancreas and also to relieve
obstruction of the bile duct.

This is a procedure which involves taking a small sample of
liver tissue to identify various illnesses.
- Feeding Tube

This is a procedure by which a small feeding tube is placed
into the stomach for the purpose of maintaining nutritional
needs.
- Photodynamic
Therapy
This is a novel procedure and available to only a few hospitals
in New Jersey. Mountainside Hospital is the first hospital in
New Jersey to obtain this technology. This procedure involves
application of a special laser light to melt away cancerous
tumors.
- Endoscopic Ultrasound
This modern technology allows us to identify some tumors on
the wall of the stomach and also to evaluate the extent of the
spread of the cancer.
- 24-hour pH Monitoring
This procedure helps us to document and evaluate the extent
of reflux disease.
- Esophageal Manometry
This procedure helps us to identify different diseases involving
the esophageal muscle contraction or peristalisis.
- Capsule Endoscopy
A small capsule is swallowed by the
patient. This device transmits pictures of the small bowel to a
digital recording system helping in the diagnosis of complex small
bowel disorders.
